Who's Behind MOVE SOLAR NOW

MOVE Solar NOW is a community-led solar readiness campaign organized by C4GS to help nonprofits, schools, faith organizations, multifamily housing leaders, small businesses, and community-serving property owners understand their clean-energy options with clarity.

This is not a traditional solar sales campaign. It is a readiness pathway designed to help organizations ask better questions, organize site information, review possible next steps, and connect with trusted partners when deeper technical, policy, financing, or implementation review is appropriate.

What Is Safe Harbor?

Safe Harbor is a federal provision that may allow eligible solar projects to preserve current Investment Tax Credit rates by taking qualifying early action before the project is complete. For this campaign, that means spending at least 5% by July 4, 2026 on eligible early project costs such as energy analysis, site survey, feasibility study, design, permit and interconnection applications, and, where appropriate, materials. Because commercial approvals may take 3 to 12 months depending on the utility, HOA, permit office, and city or county timelines, early action helps protect incentives while the project moves toward approval and installation by 2030.

Preserve Savings

The 50% federal Investment Tax Credit is one of the strongest incentives available to community-serving sites. Once the window closes, it narrows sharply for most organizations.

Safe Harbor locks in the credit when construction begins — not when it finishes. Your project has up until 2030 to complete after you qualify.

Direct Pay: What Nonprofits Should Know

Eligible nonprofits and faith organizations can receive the full 50% ITC value as a direct IRS payment, even if they pay no federal income taxes. This changes the math significantly for mission-driven organizations. Your organization does not need a tax appetite to benefit.

Ownership, usage, roof/land conditions, and utility situation all affect whether a site qualifies. The evaluation process is free and designed to give your organization a clear answer.

Safe Harbor: Plain Language

The federal government offers a 50% tax credit on solar installation costs. To lock it in, the project must begin by July 4, 2026. Once you qualify, your project has until 2030 to complete — while keeping the credit.

Nonprofits: receive this as a direct IRS payment, even with no federal tax burden.

To lock it in, spend 5% minimum Energy Analysis, Site Survey, Feasibility Study, Design, Permit and Interconnection Application, and any remainder on Materials by July 4, 2026.
